IMANI MODE is a modest luxury label selling 90x90 silk twill scarves. The founder arrived with a five-page design brief and a set of product photos. We turned that into a live Shopify store: a custom theme built to the brief, six products, and a checkout that feels like the brand rather than a template.
A brand with a clear look and nowhere to sell. The founder had done the hard part already: a name, a palette, product photography, and a five-page brief showing exactly how the shop should feel. What she did not have was a shop.
The obvious route for a small label is to pick a Shopify template and drop the photos in. That is fast, and it is also why so many independent brands end up looking like each other. For a product that sells on feeling and finish, looking generic is the one thing you cannot afford.
A custom Shopify theme built to the brief rather than a template with the colors swapped. Cream and burgundy throughout, Cormorant Garamond for headings, a script face reserved for the taglines, and a transparent header that sits over the hero so the first thing you see is the product, not the navigation.
The homepage is built from sections we wrote for this brand: a full-height hero, a details carousel against a burgundy panel, a checkerboard collection grid where each tile swaps to a second photo on hover, a silk banner, and an Instagram strip. Every one of them is editable in Shopify's admin, so the founder can change photos and copy herself without coming back to us.
Six scarves went live at launch, one per colorway, all at a single price. For a small range that is a strength, so the shop leans into it: large photography, generous space, and no discount badges or urgency timers fighting the product.
Small things carry a lot of the brand here. The favicon is the label's own monogram rather than a default Shopify mark, so the browser tab looks intentional. The typography and spacing follow the brief closely enough that the site reads as an extension of the brand, not a storefront the brand happens to use.
A template gets you online. A theme built around the brand gets you a shop that looks like nobody else's, and one that still works the way Shopify expects: fast, secure, mobile-first, with real checkout, payments and inventory behind it. The founder edits content in the admin like any Shopify user. She just is not stuck inside someone else's layout.
This is the same job as any other site we build. Understand what the business actually sells, then build the shortest possible path between a stranger seeing it and a stranger buying it.
